Welkom!

This is your Dutch Connection. A place for a great many things that are Nederlands in Nieuw Zeeland. But above all – this is a site where you can connect with our project to build ons Nationaal Museum Centrum. Right next to iconic windmill De Molen, in Foxton. A place for Dutch Kiwis and everybody else.
In the Dutch Connection, we’ll tell our story –
ons verhaal – from Abel Tasman’s first encounter with the Maori, to today. We’ll also offer our visitors the very best in art, science, tastes and culture that’s created or inspired by Nederlanders’uit Nieuw Zeeland en Nederland. This will be a place where everybody can have family and community fun. Where visitors can find inspiration and new knowledge. And lots of Dutch-ness.
All information at a glance!!!!/Alles in één oogopslag!!!! Join us! Kom d’r bij!

Here’s what our ‘Te Awahou – Nieuwe Stroom’ facility will look like (click on drawing to the left to check it out!) The Dutch Connection – Ons Museum Centrum – is the orange building. The Maori arts and crafts gallery is red. The new library is blue. The Flax Stripper museum is in the green part. De Molen is some 30 metres high and attracts visitors from afar.

Have your or your family’s photos taken by one of our most famous photographers, Ans Westra. Ans will travel the country to take photographs of Dutch people – oud en jong. If you know of somebody with a Dutch connection whose story we should tell, let us know? It could be you! You might feature in a photo book and our very first exhibition.

We need your financial support to create the Dutch Connection! Sponsor a tile in a 3 by 5 metre tableau in Delfts Blauwe tegels that will show an original drawing of the very first meeting between Maori and Europeans – Abel Tasman’s men and local Maori, in 1642 – in Murderers Bay (Golden Bay).
