Get Involved - Samenwerken
We’re building a national Museum Centre for the Nederlanders and New Zealanders, and that’s a huge effort. We can’t do it all by ourselves. We kunnen ‘t niet alleen!
There’s about 150,000 of us. If you have some Dutch blood – Neerlands bloed dat door d’aadren vloeit – or just an interest? Get involved! The Dutch Connection Trust has always worked closely with NZ-NL Societies and Organisations. But we need as many people of Dutch descent as possible to contribute.
We Need Your Stories and Collection Items
You can help in many ways, apart from donating some money (we’d love that – and the IRD will give you a rebate of 33.33%!)
You can donate museum items, for our collection. But most of all, we need you to Tell Us Your Story – Vertel uw verhaal. We must record Dutch immigration history and celebrate the effects of our arrival on NZ cuisine, the arts, sports, academia, business, agriculture, the economy and much more. We’ve been called the ‘Invisible Migrants’. As immigrants, we don’t even get a mention in Michael King’s bestselling ‘History of New Zealand’ – unlike everybody else! Let’s put ourselves on the map, so to speak.
To share our stories with the rest of New Zealand – in an engaging and inspiring way – we need additional funding. But we don’t expect something for nothing. It’s all about give and receive – one of our key principles. So, check out how your name can feature on a Delfts Blauwe Tegel. Or get famous photographer Ans Westra to come to your house and capture your story.
Remember: Because we’re a registered charitable organisation, you can claim back 33.33% of your donation from the IRD, as a tax rebate. Pure Dutch delight…!
